SAP is not a complete architecture description
Identify EWM or other warehouse components, deployment, version and enabled functions. EWM Material Flow System can change the boundary between management and control. An external WCS should not automatically duplicate functions assigned to MFS.
Reference options include delegating automation tasks to WCS or retaining selected equipment coordination in MFS. Choose one authority for each destination, route and execution state.
Channel semantics matter
SAP documentation describes MFS communication channels and telegram acknowledgements with PLCs. That is a specific mechanism, not a universal interface for every SAP project. Verify the external contract supported by the installed solution.
Separate receipt acknowledgement from task completion. Map automation load identity to the correct logistics object. Document address, identifier and quantity conversions so local adaptation does not change business meaning.

Close the exception loop
Destination unavailability may leave a task open, trigger rerouting or require intervention. Report what happened and which actions are permitted. Cancelling a management task cannot remove a load already inside equipment.
Reconciliation must compare equivalent task, load and physical-stage information. Multi-stage execution can be partially complete. Operators need that distinction before confirming inventory or releasing another move.
Worked blocked-destination scenario
P12 is admitted for storage, then its destination becomes unavailable. The responsible layer requests or selects an authorized alternative. Feedback to SAP records the approved, actually executed destination while preserving task identity.
Test blockage, replay and restart. Require one reconciled task and a traceable destination change. Concrete interfaces and functions belong to project analysis; this guide is not a promise of a universal connector.
Project verification criteria
- Assign functions between EWM/MFS and WCS.
- Validate load identifiers and address mapping.
- Test rerouting with confirmation of the actual authorized destination.
